The two best hotels in Sal for demanding tourists – Cabo Verde Travel

Choosing a high-quality Hotel in Sal is really essential for having relaxing, enjoyable holidays. I am saying this from an unpleasant personal experience. I now prefer to pay slightly more and enjoy my holidays more.

After traveling to the island of Sal in Cabo Verde many times, we have picked our two favorite hotels:

Hotel Morabeza

Hotel Morabeza is undoubtedly one of the best-situated hotels in Sal on Santa Maria’s beach. This privileged location is probably due to its age: Morabeza is the first hotel built on the island of Sal – and the first hotel in Cape Verde!

You walk out and have your feet on the sand of a beautiful beach, where you can also eat lunch and dinner. So it’s all about relaxing and recharging your energy on this beach. But do not worry, the center of the little town with shops and restaurants is just a few hundred meters away!

The hotel is medium-sized and still family-run, well-cared for, and frequently renovated.

Besides its charm and well-cared-for facilities, the food quality is a highlight. Why? Many larger and overly commercial hotels import most of their food. On the contrary, Hotel Morabeza will serve you locally-sourced fresh fish and vegetables.

I’m not exaggerating when saying my parents are high-demanding travelers, and they do return every year to hotel Morabeza to stay several weeks during winter. Hotel Morabeza is the perfect choice if you do like high-comfort, service, tradition in the mix with high quality – and you do like a more quiet place to relax.

Hotel Ojo d’Agua

Very closely situated to Hotel Morabeza, we find Hotel Ojo d’Agua, another excellent choice when staying in Sal. The location has all the benefits that Hotel Morabeza offers, too.

Hotel Ojo d’Agua is also one of the first hotels in Sal and is somewhat related to Hotel Morabeza in its origins. Ojo d’Agua will provide high comfort and is a bit less price-intensive. Therefore, the hotel may be the best choice for younger travelers or families who prefer an authentic location.

The truly unique charm of Hotel Ojo d’Agua is its oasis-feeling on the beach – the botanical-garden-like terrain, in which the facilities are integrated, makes you feel like you are in the Caribbean. The history behind this is also beautiful, as a botany-loving family originally built the hotel and grew the garden.

The hotel has a fantastic view from its restaurant, directly above the sea, with spectacular sun sets by dinner. The food is – like in Hotel Morabeza – fresh and locally-sourced!

Conclusion

Both hotels, Morabeza and Ojo d’Agua are in our top choices when traveling to Cape Verde. They are not only very-well established, authentic and well-kept hotels in Sal, but in the whole country. Besides the hotels, their location is one of the best!

When deciding between the two, we would say, pick the one that resonates with you, your budget and also, if you are traveling with children or not.
