Once you are in São Vicente (which has an international Airport) taking the ferry to Santo Antão is not a big deal anymore, but a small adventure.
Traveling from São Vicente to Santo Antão by boat
To travel from São Vicente, you need to take the ferry at Mindelo Port. The tickets are available at the port itself. The port is small, with very little public transport, so you will find the ferry easily. Here is the exact location of the passenger ferry terminal:

Monday to Saturday, the ferry leaves at 8.00 am and 3.00 pm from Mindelo.
On Sunday the ferry leaves 8.00 am.
